FORMING A BASKETBALL PLAYER

About myself

I like to define myself as a creative person and good leader who is capable to get the best out of the people I work with.

​

Like most coaches, I have a past as a player. Not particularly successful, but I have had the opportunity to compete at high level and share court or locker room with real basketball players. I have been involved in winning projects where I could learn the importance of winning and knowing the recipe to achieve it.

​

I started my career as a professional coach in Gran Canaria, Spain, in a project which goal was the development of players and young coaches, led by Antonio de Torres. I was surrounded by very good coaches and a large group of players, thanks to them I had the opportunity to learn many things in a short period of time.

​

After Gran Canaria’s experience I decided that moving abroad was essential to continue my formation, especially because of the necessity to learn the English language. Today, after two years living in Helsinki, using English as my primary language, I can say that my goal in this adventure has been achieved. However, as can be seen in my writing, there is still too much to learn and improve.

​

Torpan Pojat, in particular Jomi Suhonen, offered me the opportunity to resume my coaching career in Helsinki. At first I look at it as a way to earn some money doing what I love, Basketball. However, I was not expecting that as soon as I started coaching again something inside was going to start firing. So in less than a season I went from trying to earn a few euros to survive in a foreign country to designing a high-performance developing project for young players, introducing a project for coaching formation and organizing an International Basketball Clinic for coaches.

Right now I'm working as an assistant coach in Torpan Pojat men’s team where we focus on players improvement in all senses. I have the privileged to work with a great group of players and professionals every day.

Coaching at Torpan Pojat I have been developing many things and testing new concepts and skills that I wanted to share. I hope that FBP helps me to show what is behind the scenes, all the small details that we have to take care when forming a basketball player.
